About the Hack Day
The ‘For the Social Good’ hack day organised by Box UK is a day-long event open to coders, developers, designers...in fact anyone that’s interested in creating software: mobile; web; games; whatever! You’ll compete in teams to build something awesome in the time you have, using whatever data and tools you can lay your hands on.
Where? When?
The hack day is taking place on 20th November, and we’ll be set up on the 2nd floor of the Cardiff University Student’s Union: follow the signs on the day. The event lasts from 10 in the morning until 10 at night, so this is one for the hardcore.
Why ‘For the Social Good’?
Every hack day needs a theme, and ours is based around creating services that benefit the local area. We want to give something back to the community through social interest apps, and it’s something we’ll be looking for when judging the winners. However, how you interpret the theme is up to you; show us your best moves, we can handle it!
Yes, but are there prizes?
Other than the warm glow of doing something good? Of course. Amazon vouchers are up for grabs for the winning teams, ranging from anywhere between £10 and £30 per person depending on where your team is placed.
How is Box UK involved with this event?
Box UK is organising and sponsoring the event. We have a great technology community here in Cardiff, and we want to build on this and engage with all you talented people out there. We’re also providing the all-important pizza supplies to keep energy levels high.
Sounds great! How do I sign up?
Numbers are limited, so to avoid disappointment fill out our registration form now to register your interest.
The Legal Stuff
Box UK make no claim to ownership of any code produced during the event: that belongs to you. However, we are firm supporters of the open source community, and as such would appreciate it if developers would consider making their work available under an open source license so that others may learn from the applications developed on the day, and even contribute to your initial project to produce something pretty cool.
